KYN-28 Medium-Voltage Switchgear 6(10) kV
The KYN-28 series of complete switchgear is intended for the reception, distribution, switching, and protection of three-phase AC with a rated voltage of 10 (6) kV at 50 Hz. The solution is used in substation and power-plant switchgear lineups, as well as at industrial and infrastructure sites where selective protection, high availability, and safe maintenance are required.
A metal-clad design with a withdrawable vacuum circuit-breaker and compartmentalization (busbar, circuit-breaker, cable, and relay/control) confines short-circuit effects to a single compartment. A system of mechanical and electromagnetic interlocks prevents incorrect operations, and a lockable shutter mechanism covers the primary contacts in test and maintenance positions of the draw-out unit, improving operator safety.
The modular architecture allows you to configure the lineup for the project task, expand with additional panels, and flexibly integrate secondary systems. Various connection schemes, cable entry directions (top/bottom), and service options (single-sided/two-sided) are supported.
- Typical functional panels: incoming, bus-section, feeder, metering/measuring, VT/SA.
- Protection and control integration: auto-reclose (AR), automatic transfer (ATS), under-frequency load shed (UFLS), selective protections, telecontrol and SCADA links.
- Compatibility with various 6-10 kV vacuum circuit-breakers subject to electro-mechanical interface compliance.
The enclosure is made of steel with an aluzinc coating; exterior panels are powder-coated for long-term corrosion resistance. The construction protects equipment in adjacent compartments and facilitates routine maintenance.
Standards compliance. KYN-28 switchgear is designed to meet international norms; insulation levels, environmental and service parameters are defined at the design stage and verified by documentation and project testing.
- IEC 62271-200 - metal-enclosed/metal-clad MV switchgear, including internal-arc classification (IAC).
- IEC 62271-100 - circuit-breakers (vacuum); IEC 62271-102 - earthing switches.
- IEC 60071-1 - insulation coordination (standard levels).
- EN/IEC 60721-3-3 - environmental conditions (indoor, weather-protected); EN/IEC 60529 - degree of protection (IP).
Scope of use
KYN-28 is used in networks with an isolated or compensated (Petersen-coil) neutral as part of medium-voltage substations and switchgear:
- 6-10 kV substation MV rooms (main step-down, central and district substations, auxiliary power of power plants);
- Large industrial infrastructure: metallurgy, mining, refineries and petrochemicals, cement and food factories;
- Energy complexes with generation (engine-based CHP/cogeneration), busbar redundancy and sectionalizing;
- Logistics and warehouse hubs, commercial real estate, utilities and waterworks;
- Modernization of existing substations with adaptation of schemes to installed breakers and protection IEDs.
Service conditions
- Environmental classification - EN/IEC 60721-3-3 (higher severity classes on request);
- Lower ambient operating temperature: -25 °C (below this, provide room heating for the MV lineup; local heater in relay compartment permissible);
- Altitude: up to 1000 m (above this - verify insulation/cooling by calculation);
- Indoor, non-hazardous atmosphere, free of conductive dust and corrosive vapors (typical industrial environment per EN/IEC 60721-3-3);
- Mechanical robustness per EN/IEC 62271-200 / 62271-1; degree of protection - IP31 (EN/IEC 60529);
- Insulation levels - per IEC 60071-1:2019 (standard category).
Design features of KYN-28
- Compartmentalization (busbar, withdrawable breaker, cable, relay/control) - fault effects confined within the compartment;
- Internal-arc containment and pressure relief: metallic partitions and upward exhaust ducts;
- Lockable shutter mechanism closes primary contacts in test/maintenance positions of the withdrawable unit;
- Interlocks (mechanical and electromagnetic) - clear logic; in line with IEC safety interlocking practice;
- Earthing switch with spring operating mechanism - quick make, visible break, and interlocking;
- Remote control (as specified): motor operators for the breaker and earthing switch, integration with protection IEDs and SCADA;
- Steel enclosure with aluzinc coating; exterior panels powder-coated for high corrosion resistance.
Configuration and options
- Withdrawable vacuum circuit-breaker 6-10 kV (type/manufacturer per project), current and voltage transformers;
- Functional panels: incoming, bus-section, feeders, metering/measuring, VT/SA;
- Cable connections - top or bottom; maintenance - single-sided or two-sided;
- Modern protection IEDs (AR, ATS, UFLS, etc.), standard communication protocols for SCADA/DCS;
- Options: arc-flash/temperature sensors, increased IP rating, extended exhaust systems;
- Arc-resistant execution available per IEC 62271-200 (IAC directions AFL/AFR/AFLR).
Reliability and service life
- Equipment in adjacent compartments is protected from fault effects in the affected compartment;
- Primary devices selected to meet electrical and mechanical endurance per applicable IEC requirements;
- Enclosure made of quality steel with aluzinc coating; fasteners - high-strength steel rivets;
- Exterior parts (doors, panels) are powder-coated for durable corrosion protection.

We offer documentation for manufacturing KYN-28 switchgear:
Pre-tender technical package. We prepare a bid set: solutions per specification and inquiry sheets, typical single-line diagrams, a list of key devices, and a design note for feasibility and cost evaluation.
Working drawings and 3D models for production. We issue layout and assembly drawings, BOM and purchased-parts lists, and secondary connection schematics for manufacturing KYN-28 at your facility.
Outsourced fabrication of assemblies. If you do not plan to manufacture metalwork and certain parts in-house, we can involve partner shops under quality control; you perform assembly, installation, and routine factory tests.
Adaptation to existing equipment. We develop documentation for compatible, functionally equivalent cubicles at substations with third-party equipment: matching interfaces, secondary schemes, protection IEDs, and bus systems.
Project-aligned updates. All documents can be updated to reflect project requirements, expert review findings, and your plant’s manufacturing capabilities.
Why work with us:
Reduced staffing pressure. The documentation set is structured so it can be efficiently used by engineers of average qualification.
Series launch without pilot prototypes. Proven assemblies and typical solutions shorten lead times and reduce risks.
Design-team support. We assist your staff on KYN-28 fabrication, assembly, commissioning, and integration of breakers/IEDs.
Shorter schedules and lower cost. Through standardization, unified purchased parts, and streamlined logistics.
