KM-1 Medium-Voltage Switchgear 6(10) kV

KM-1 series switchgear is a line of complete medium-voltage panels designed for the reception, distribution, and switching of three-phase power at 6 and 10 kV, 50/60 Hz. Cubicles are intended for operation in systems with an isolated neutral as well as in systems where the neutral is grounded through an arc-suppression coil (Petersen coil) or an active resistor (as per project documentation).

The KM-1 base platform is a modular sheet-steel enclosure of increased rigidity with front doors and rear removable panels, divided into functional compartments by solid metallic/insulating partitions. This sectioning ensures mechanical strength, electrical and fire safety, and simplifies maintenance. The design supports both withdrawable (draw-out truck) and fixed-mounted implementations.

Scope of use

  • Substations of utilities (6-10 kV MV rooms, distribution points, main step-down substations) and auxiliary systems of power plants;
  • Power systems of industrial facilities (oil & gas, mining & metals, chemicals, machinery);
  • Power supply for agricultural sites and municipal infrastructure;
  • Retrofit of existing indoor MV rooms with bus and cable routing interfaces preserved.

Service conditions

  • Indoor installation up to 1000 m altitude;
  • Environmental classification - EN/IEC 60721-3-3 (stationary, weather-protected locations);
  • Temperature and humidity ranges - per project specification and installation category;
  • Non-hazardous atmosphere, free of conductive dust and aggressive vapors/gases.

Design features

  • Rigid modular steel framework with corrosion protection (painted and galvanic finishes);
  • Functional compartmentalization: withdrawable breaker, cable, busbar, relay/control;
  • Bottom MV-cable entry via cable trenches; terminations in the cable compartment;
  • Connection of up to 4 MV cables of 3x240 mm² (as per project);
  • Feeder interfaces via both cable and busbar incoming/outgoing connections;
  • Unified core assemblies and sizes regardless of main-circuit schemes.

Configuration and variants

  • With withdrawable unit: vacuum circuit-breaker, voltage transformers, station/control-power transformer (CPT), earthing switch, etc.;
  • Without withdrawable unit: solid-incoming panels, cable transition/termination panels, bus sections;
  • Relay compartment: protection & control IEDs, metering/accounting, SCADA interfaces, terminal blocks, DC auxiliary supply;
  • Busbars and bus system - copper/aluminium; sectionalizing per project.

Compliance with standards

  • IEC 62271-1, IEC 62271-200 (metal-enclosed MV switchgear up to 52 kV);
  • IEC 62271-100 (circuit-breakers), IEC 62271-102 (earthing switches);
  • IEC 61869-2/-3 (current and voltage transformers);
  • EN/IEC 60529 (degrees of protection, IP);
  • EN/IEC 60721-3-3 (environmental conditions - indoor, weather-protected);
  • EN/IEC 61000-6-2 (EMC immunity, industrial) / EN/IEC 61000-6-4 (EMC emissions, industrial).

We offer documentation for manufacturing KM-1 switchgear:

  • Pre-tender documentation: single-line diagrams, inquiry sheets, and technical description;
  • Working drawings, 3-D models, BOM, secondary schematics, and cable schedules tailored to your production;
  • Arranging contract manufacturing of enclosures/assemblies with partners; you perform assembly, installation, and routine factory tests;
  • Adapting the package to project requirements and your plant's manufacturing capabilities;
  • Transition/interface panels for integration with third-party equipment and existing MV rooms.

Why work with us:

  • No need to expand engineering staff: the documentation set targets engineers of average qualification;
  • Series launch without pilot prototypes thanks to unified assemblies and proven solutions;
  • Expert support on assembly, commissioning, and integration of protection/SCADA, plus guidance on KM-1 manufacturing nuances.

...as is well known, an error at the design stage leads to tenfold costs in manufacturing and hundredfold in operation. Timely engineering mitigates budget impact and reduces downtime risks.
