PR-180, PR-90 Manual disconnector drive

The manual drive PR-180; PR-90 is intended for operating the main and earthing blades of high-voltage disconnectors for outdoor installation in voltage classes 110–220 kV (by agreement - also lower/higher, provided kinematics and interface dimensions are compatible). The drive is suitable for open-air use and unheated rooms in line with environmental and service conditions of EN/IEC 62271-1 and environmental classification EN 60721. The normative basis is EN/IEC 62271-102 (AC disconnectors and earthing switches) together with EN/IEC 62271-1 (common specifications). For 110–220 kV, compatibility with the RDZ/RG disconnector families of the respective voltage classes is confirmed.

The PR-180 kinematics transmit torque to the disconnector’s main shaft with a rotation angle of 180° (PR-90 - 90°) and provide positive latching in the end positions “Closed/Open” and “Earthed/Released”. Rigidly matched end stops and adjustment elements ensure repeatable angles, which is critical for safe operating sequences in 110–220 kV switchyards of substations, distribution points, metal-clad/compartmented switchgear and industrial switchboards. Typical characteristics for the manual drive series include a required torque of approximately ≈370 N·m and admissible hand force on the lever with an extension up to 1.5 m (values to be finalised by project and design documentation).

Base configuration includes one main output shaft and one/two earthing switch shafts (versions L/P/LP), providing flexibility for a given disconnector type and yard scheme. Clamps/adapters are mounted on the shafts to interface with disconnector linkages (RDZ-110/150/220, RG-110/150/220, RNDZ-110/150/220, etc.). For integration into secondary circuits, KSA auxiliary contacts are provided (signals “ON/OFF/EARTHED”) - modular switch blocks for auxiliary circuits with expandable sections.

To prevent human error, two types of interlocking are applied. The mechanical sequence interlock prevents closing the earthing switch with the main blade closed, and vice versa. The electromagnetic interlock based on the ZB-1M lock (with KEZ-1M keys and emergency magnetic KM-1M) enforces logic prohibitions from protection/telecontrol schemes and is designed for outdoor use (reinforced housing and keys). These solutions are purpose-built for drives of high-voltage disconnectors and earthing switches.

Service conditions account for precipitation, UV exposure and moderate dust; protective covers, sealed cable glands and periodic maintenance are recommended. Mount on a rigid foundation with alignment of “drive - linkages - shaft”, set the end stops and verify pole synchronism. In KSA secondary circuits, use interposing relays where loads are higher. Such practices follow typical recommendations for manual disconnector drives and ensure reliable operation in AIS/indoor substations.

Benefits for users: power-independent operation and easy upkeep versus motor drives; predictable kinematics with clean end-stopping without “over-travel”; unified left/right placement and count of earthing shafts (L/P/LP) for different yard schemes; ready for SCADA integration via “dry” KSA contacts; possibility of tailoring to interface dimensions and industry standards.

Purpose and application

PR-180, PR-90 are reliable mechanical drives for local operation of outdoor disconnectors in classes 110–220 kV. Compatible with apparatus families RDZ, RNDZ, RG -110/150/220 (subject to matching shaft/linkage interfaces). The drive ensures rigid end-position latching, torque transmission under moderate icing, and the correct “disconnector ↔ earthing switch” sequence, eliminating mal-operations during switching in transmission and distribution yards.

Service conditions

Designed for outdoor installation in temperate/cold climates; precipitation, UV exposure and moderate dust are admissible with protective covers and maintenance per schedule. Install on a rigid base with alignment “drive - linkages - shaft”. Maintenance scope: tightening of fasteners, checking interlocks and KSA contacts, servicing moving assemblies as per the manual.

Layout and design features

PR-180 is built as two rigidly coupled panels/covers with hubs and input shafts, a transmission mechanism and a removable cover. Position markings are applied to the hubs; cable glands and a PE stud for earthing are provided. KSA-4/KSA-12 are driven by the output shafts through the mechanism, generating discrete “ON/OFF/EARTHED” signals for protection/SCADA/telecontrol. For compatibility, replaceable clamps and adapters are used; left/right placement of earthing shafts relative to the main shaft is available (versions “P”/“L”).

Safety and interlocking

The drive implements the following safety measures:

  • Mechanical sequence interlock - prevents earthing with the main blade closed, and vice versa.
  • End-position locking - lever locking with block locks (type B-1) and/or padlocks; the handle can be secured for LOTO procedures.
  • Electromagnetic interlock (option) - ZB-1M lock with KEZ-1M/KM-1M keys for inter-device interlocks and guided scenarios.
  • Position signalling - KSA contacts (up to 12/4) for discrete signals; at higher loads - via interposing relays.

Compatibility with disconnectors

FAQ for the PR-180; PR-90 manual drive

  • 1. Which disconnectors are PR-180 and PR-90 suitable for?
PR-180 is compatible with RDZ-110/150/220 and RG-110/220, as well as other disconnectors subject to matching interfaces and rotation angles (Main 180°, Earthing 90°/180°).
  • 2. How to choose L/R/LR?
“L” - earthing shaft(s) to the left of the main shaft; “R” - to the right; “LR” - two earthing shafts. Selection depends on the yard scheme, linkage orientation and required earthing rotation (90° or 180°).
  • 3. Can an electromagnetic interlock be integrated?
Yes. In addition to the mechanical sequence interlock, an electromagnetic interlock based on the ZB-1M lock with KEZ-1M/KM-1M keys (220-V circuits) is available for inter-device blocking and protection/SCADA use.
  • 4. What service conditions apply?
Outdoor design; typical range -40…+40 °C (project-dependent extension possible), altitude ≤1000 m, use of protective covers and adherence to the maintenance schedule.
  • 5. How do PR-180 and PR-90 differ and when to choose which?
PR-180 is designed for a 180° main rotation (typical for RDZ 110–220 kV). PR-90 is for 90° and is used where a 90° rotation is required. The choice is defined by the disconnector’s required angle.
